History:

Gundam is a Super High School Level Animal Breeder and, apparently, Your Future Dark Master Of This Universe. In reality, he’s only one of those things. Not much is known about his past, and all of it has to be deciphered through his rambling about Gods and Devil Dogs, but growing up Gundam was very lonely and very shy. At a young age, having no other children to play with, he befriended all animals he came in contact with, having a natural ability to calm them and make them happy. Described as “the school’s very own Doctor Dolittle” by Komeada, he might even have the ability to talk to them. As a child, animals were Gundam’s only friends and his social isolation was probably the reason for the stories he tells and why he thinks he’s a 2000 year old Lord Of Darkness. He made them up in his head to keep himself amused and happy, and now he believes them. What we know about him growing up for the most part is that even in school he wouldn’t allow himself any friends and refused to be touched (even now he thinks this) because his mother’s cooking was so terrible he believes it was poison and now his entire body is poisonous from the exposure. He would skip out of P.E. classes and school festivals because of this, to keep from touching other students and teachers.

Now that he’s in high school, Gundam doesn’t refuse to talk to others and is very outspoken, even if his eccentric personality has grown. He talks to the main character about his past in vague, embellished stories so anything may or may not be true, but what we see of him in game are what we have to go off of. Gundam enters the school like all the others via his Super High School Level status as an Animal Breeder. Gundam is known for his vast collection of animals, claiming to have Tamed All Beasts On This Plane And The Next, and has saved more than a few species from extinction. He seems annoyed at the sudden displacement on the island, but as with most things he takes it in stride and blames it on some form of deity. When the first murder takes place he doesn’t seem to care much at all, only focusing on the loss of his Devil Dog Earring (this becomes a key point in solving the murder however.) Up until his actions in the fourth chapter and his eventual execution he acts the same. Right up to the end Gundam takes care of his animals, setting his four pet hamsters aside to keep them out of harms way (and as seen in the video, Monobear has to use some sort of lure to get the animals to trample him, implying they might refuse to hurt him without it.)

Personality:

Gundam Tanaka is... Gundam Tanaka. He’s his own breed of eccentric crazy, and never seems to notice that it might bother or weird out other people. While you find out he was a shy, lonely child through his free time events, the Gundam in game seems extremely extroverted. He talks to others, he tells them about his world domination plans and stories. This doesn’t mean he isn’t painfully socially awkward, however. He puts up a strong front in the form of his Future Dark Master Of This Earth And The Universe spiel but beneath it all he’s an easily flustered, caring young man who listens to others how he wants them to listen to him. He goes out of his way during things like the trials and cut scenes Gundam is attentive to what others have to say, such as telling Mikan Tsumiki that he would listen to her every word if she testified when she had said she didn’t matter, and helping Chiaki Nanami (another shy student) look for holes in the base of the lodge that the murderer in chapter one may have used (even if it was to also look for his Devil Dog Earring.) He has a softer side that’s much more “sixteen year old animal lover” than “Dark Master” when it comes to his animals, constantly seen with his hamsters in canon holding them and petting them, even his sprites with them having wider smiles than the ones without. He’s very proud of them but gets extremely flustered and embarrassed when Sonia calls them “cute hamsters,” claiming they were so much more than that, but still thanking her for the compliment. He seems complex due to the front he puts up, his character is mostly just kind.

Though he likes to talk to people and cares for others on the island, Gundam would probably be just fine with his animal companions. He’s known them since his childhood and they’ve always been there, unlike human companionship. He cares more deeply for animals than other humans, perhaps even putting them higher in importance where species are concerned. He takes great offense when his hamsters are insulted by Souda Kazuichi and is even less kind to him afterward, as if he holds a grudge for the remark. He would be content to live with his animals and no one else. He also seems much more polite to women than he is other men. could you be more animalistic gundam

Gundam is also extremely prideful and will never give in. The reason for his murdering in Chapter Four is because he refuses to give up and let Monobear starve them (and his pets) to death. His drive to murder is not out of spite or hate toward another student, but out of the unwillingness to give up and die. He goes to great lengths to kill another student who already has lost their physical body (now a mecha,) which could be used to say Gundam values natural life over artificial life. Still, even when found out and he is about to be executed, Gundam gives the other students a rousing speech about not losing hope and continuing to struggle until Monobear is defeated. He accepts that his own death is coming when his spell doesn't work, but he makes sure the other students will be inspired by him and hopes they will stay safe until the very end. He faces death with dignity and strength, never one wavering in his personality and demeanor even when he's about to be executed. He's strong and determined and refuses to lie down and take what's thrown at them, even in the face of danger, starvation, and death.

Over all, Gundam is a strong character, if eccentric, willing to put others safety before him, even if it's because he thinks he's a 2000 Year Old Master Of Darkness who doesn't turn out to be as invincible as he thought. The very fact he still thinks of others despite his delusions of grandeur shows he's kind and dignified and not a vain as he seems. He may care more about animals than humans, but he's willing to try to instill hope and determination in them before staring down death in the face. He cares about the companions he makes, human or animal.

Special Abilities:
It’s unclear if he actually has any. During his execution he draws a sigil on the ground to keep from being trampled but it doesn’t work. Did Monobear nullify it? Is Gundam just crazy? It’s never said. Komeada does mention that Gundam is “Like Dr Dolittle” implying he can talk to animals and it makes more sense than the magic does, with how bonded Gundam seems to be with his animal companions.

How did your character die?
He was executed by Monobear in chapter four of the game. Execution video here.

Looking back, perhaps he should have been more kind to his human companions. Gundam remembered telling Hajime Hinata about his life, or what he perceived to be his life anyway, while walking home for the day, Hinata oddly interested in him as opposed to another that day. He'd told him all about his plans for His New World Order and that if they were friends perhaps Hinata would have a place there. That was how he introduced himself, after all. "Gundam Tanaka is my name. Do not forget, for when I rule the world to do so will be to invite death!"
That was the image he gave off to others. He often thought this now, especially so closely knit with only fifteen others on the island with them, and few of his animal companions allowed on the trip.

Still, he couldn't help but feel that he would never be able to relate to another human being the way that he did animals. He remembered musing about this when he'd left Hinata at the door of his beach house and let his four hamsters out of his scarf to settle in for sleep in their cage, watching them as he sat reading on his rocker before sleep took him as well. They meant so much to him, nothing was lost when he took an animal to companion like when he sought human companionship. Humans were complex, animals were not. He thought, what if it were humans that scared him? Had he simply been so ill raised by his witch of a mother that he had turned to animals for the love he needed? No, that wasn't the case. They were simply what he could relate to the most.

That was why, when he saw what Monobear had planned for him, when all had been found out, he attempted to summon a barrier. Not a spell of attack, not anything that would harm the animals stampeding toward him, but a barrier spell. He would never hurt an animal, not even as a food source for himself. He had simply set his hamsters aside, out of harm's way, and called upon their power one last time. Some how, some way, Monobear had nullified his powers. It had to be the case, he thought, as he was thrown into the air by the animals he'd hoped to deflect. Monobear had done something so heinous as to cancel out The Power Of The Four Dark Gods Of Destruction.

When he'd fallen into the dirt, bloody and trampled and his vision going black, Gundam had looked upon his truest of companions one last time. Not the humans he had spent so much time with, but his companions, his dearest pets. They had looked terrified, upset, running to him and he feared for their little hearts, that they would succumb and death would take them as well despite his efforts. Sun-D, Maga-G, Chan-P, Jum-P.... How he would miss them. He could only smile, thinking back to the times they'd shared, training them to do tricks and spoiling them rotten with seeds and yogurt drops.

Closing his eyes he thought, perhaps, that he saw all the others too. The animal companions he had cared for over the years, those that had passed on into The Great Beyond before him. He thought, as he closed his eyes to the image of his four hamsters, that the spirits of his lost companions had lighted down so angelically to pick him up and sweep him into the sky. Finally, he would be with them again.

Did you read the rules and F.A.Q.? Yup
